Boujee on a Budget: Sound System Upgrade

Who says living the luxe life has to come with a hefty price tag? You deserve premium experiences without stretching your wallet – whether it’s for your home or your closet. It’s all about finding the perfect balance between quality and affordability.

That’s why the iLive Soundbar and Subwoofer System is perfect for those who live a boujee life on a budget. This sleek setup delivers powerful, high-definition sound that makes every movie night, playlist, or podcast feel like a front-row experience.

Soundbars typically have multiple speakers directed towards the listener, delivering richer, more detailed sound with better bass response compared to small TV speakers that are on the back of the tv pointed towards the wall making it muffled sounding.

Designed to elevate your space without emptying your bank account, it’s proof that boujee doesn’t have to mean overspending. Case in point, the iLive - 45-inch Bluetooth Soundbar with Wireless Subwoofer and Satellite Speakers is only $159 at Best Buy

Why upgrade to a soundbar?

A soundbar speaker offers significant benefits over a TV's built-in speakers, including significantly improved sound quality with clearer dialogue, a more immersive audio experience, easy setup, space-saving design, versatility with multiple connectivity options, and affordability compared to full home theater systems, making it a great choice for enhancing your TV watching experience without major complications or cost.

Easy setup experience:

You won't need Geek Squad or a tech bro to set this up either.

Soundbars are designed for easy installation, usually connecting to your TV with a single HDMI cable using the ARC standard. It comes with wirelss detachable speakers for the rear speakers, and a wireless subwoofer for when you need the additional bass for that “fuller” sound, for when you want to hear an explosion have a little bit more “oomph,” or an overall full sound to anything your watching or simply just listening to music.

Overall thoughts:

One of the more interesting features of this soundbar is that on the ends, it has two speakers that can stay attached to allow even more of a soundstage due to the width, OR they can actually simply be twisted off and then used as wireless surround speakers that are battery powered! When attached to the soundbar, it actually charges them and shows an indicator light when it's charging.  If you’re looking for a more permanent location setup, though,  it does include USB-C cables that you can simply plug into any USB charger (not included). Overall, with the wireless rear speakers and the wireless sub that essentially pairs itself without issues, it’s a great purchase for the money!

There is also an even more budget option - a 29-inch version on Amazon, which would be perfect for my apartment in Manhattan too.

Ideas to Turn Your Home Into Your Favorite Vacation Destination

The main reasons people go on vacation are for either relaxation or for an exciting, new experience. Although not many views can beat those of the exotic waters surrounding the islands of Seychelles, that doesn’t mean your home should not feel like a dream destination. Some of the perks of being on vacation can be easily enjoyed at home if the surroundings and the atmosphere are right.

Here are a few ideas on how to easily revamp your house so that you can create a welcoming environment for relaxing vibes.

Organize Themed Evenings In

One of the best things about going away is being able to attend various parties and events. Whether they are organized by the resort you are staying at or in a nearby club or restaurant. However, who says your living room space can’t be transformed into a Hawaiian beach bar, or become the host of a wine tasting experience similar to those in Tuscany?

Another exciting idea involves turning your kitchen into a bar area and your living room into a fancy casino. All the people living with you could join in, if not, you can even play it online with your friends. On BonusFinder, for example, you can find online casinos that work with a minimum deposit, so that everyone that decides to play can try out various options. Then, once everyone is happy with their choice, the casino-themed night can begin.

Update Your Inside Decor to Feel More Like a Resort

If it’s too hot or too cold to be spending numerous hours outside, there are plenty of other options to revamp the inside of your home to resemble a resort.

  • Add some oversized wall art.
  • Give your walls the island treatment (there are now stick and peel wall options).
  • Go big with houseplants (real or fake).
  • Use crisp white linens (I'm all about Cozy Earth's bamboo sheets, providing the perfect sleeping temperature. It's a splurge, but worth it. I even bought a set for my mom. Get 45% off with the discount code CETARAS ).
  • Set up a bar cart (you can switch up with the seasons).

Focus On the Outside Space

The most drastic vacation change you can make to your home is to completely redecorate the outside space. When it comes to the outdoors, you have two options. You can either focus on
designing a patio for a dreamy outside oasis or on turning the backyard into various entertaining zones. Of course, if your budget and space allow, you can even do both. The bottom line is, if done with style, the backyard can easily become your favorite spot on your property.

An outdoor area with tables, chairs, benches, or garden sofas, is very inviting for one of the best activities when going abroad - al fresco dining. Eating outside always feels like a getaway and, if you don’t want to cook, you can just order the food and enjoy it on your patio. Moreover, you could even install a hammock and turn it into a reading spot. Add a few cozy cushions, a blanket, and some lanterns, and it would invite you to reflect and relax.

Another idea if you're an outdoorsy type, you can transform the backyard into a campground with a fire pit, smores and tents.

Customizing your dream closet

Mr. Big: We're getting married. Should we get you a diamond?
Carrie: No. No. Just get me a really big closet. ~Sex and the City

Seriously, who doesn't wish they had a custom walk-in closet with all their shoes, bags and clothes perfectly on display? No more rifling through to find what you need. No plastic wall hooks, faux shelves, tangled hangers crammed together and stacked piles of shirts? ðŸ™‹‍♀️

PLC Closets Naples Showroom
I wish that was my organized closet! My DIY attempts so far to bring order to my closet look well, DIY and amateur. *sigh* Fortunately, actual experts at PLC Closets in Naples tailor make 100% Custom Closet Storage systems for their clients for a perfectly personalized closet.

Fact: Regular closets are usually a mess (like mine!). Most people keep their clothes and shoes in piles and due to their limited storage options, they almost always reach the conclusion that around half of them are never worn. Fortunately, this problem can be easily solved with a more personalized approach that will make the most out of the space you have for your wardrobe and display it in a more efficient manner.

Tip: Closets that have two rows of hanging space for shirts with a smaller area for dresses can allow a great deal more clothing to fit into the same square footage. When looked at from another angle, this helps shrink the footprint needed to store the same amount of stuff. While I've done this for my boys' closets, I haven't been able to manage this in mind yet.

Closet organization isn't just for clothes, but jewelry, shoes, or a vanity too
For more information, you can visit PLC Closets Naples showroom at 1408 Rail Head Blvd, Naples, FL 34110; (239) 260-1890.

Upgrading to a Big Boy Room with City Furniture

My boys are turning five next week! *my mind is blown*

We figured a great way to celebrate the milestone would be to upgrade their bedroom with bigger boy furnishings.

They have been in toddler beds for a while now, but with them sneaking into each other's beds some evenings, it was getting pretty tight in there. We discovered them like this just the other night...
Growing out of their toddler beds
Since my twins share a room, we were really looking for furnishings that did double-duty by providing storage space and grew with them as they continue to get older (NOooo!). However, they are still kids, so we wanted something fun that would get them excited, but wouldn't be an eyesore or cheap and plastic either.

The answer? City Furniture!
Big Boy Beds from City Furniture being delivered

Boys Bedroom Before:

Boys Bedroom After:

City Furniture Loft Bed
We ordered two City Furniture Highlands Dark Tone Loft Beds ($995), which included a loft headboard, footboard, ladder, rails, chest of drawers, bookcase and desk in a very dark brown espresso color.

These loft beds add both more space and storage capacity to their room. Although, my boys already started filling the drawers with toys, so I had to explain that their clothes needed to go there, lol.

Extra storage dressers and desk included.
Since they will be entering Kindergarten next year, we loved that the bottom portion also functioned as a desk for doing homework after school, allowing them their own creative workspaces, while not taking up any additional space either. For now, they are using the area to play and as a reading nook at night.

His and his space
The best part? City Furniture delivered the bedroom sets AND installed them. Phew, because ain't nobody got time for that, lol. Such a relief. It took the professional moving team almost two hours, but they handled everything even taking the boxes and wrappings with them.

Overall, I think the end result looks sophisticated, yet still magical for my boys. It met all my requirements - quality, functionality, and creativity.

Bonus, my boys are eager to go to bed each night now!

What do you think???

There is a City Furniture Showroom in Fort Myers (near Gulf Coast Town Center) and in Naples, as well as throughout Florida. You can also view their collections Online.

DIY LEGO Wall

Peel-and-Stick LEGO Baseplates
Like most boys, mine are obsessed with LEGO bricks. So, I ordered Peel-and-Stick Baseplates for my boys' upgraded bedroom. They are so easy to apply too. Instead of lying them on a flat surface, I put them on the sides of their bookshelves for some vertical building, thus allowing their furniture to have more than one purpose. Totally made me look like an expert DIYer to my kids too!

For a more customized and moldable look, we are now adding Mayka Tape for Lego lovers to the sides of their desk, underneath it for upside-down creations and pretty much anywhere they can stick it, lol. Fortunately, it comes off easily too and is non-marking. It's also more flexible than the hard base plates and comes in nine different colors.

Pillow Pets

Besides their love of LEGO bricks, my boys are also obsessed with Disney/Pixar's Cars, which you can probably spot in their bedroom too. To go with their new room, we added these awesome Lightning McQueen Pillow Pets, which are a plush toy and pillow in one.  Great for boys!
They also have an edition that light's up and projects stars.

Disclaimer: I was provided a portion of the City Furniture pieces for free in exchange for my honest review. I paid the overage for the additional loft set, delivery and installation fees and received no other compensation.

Winning Halloween with AtmosFX Digital Decorating Kit

It's no secret that Halloween is my favorite holiday. Lucky for me, I live on a street that takes the holiday serious as well. People decorate over-the-top like at Christmas time.

We're definitely among the ones that go all out with lights, blow-ups and homemade decorations. This year though, we are really bringing it thanks to the AtmosFX Digital Decorating Kit, the home decorating effects company that pioneers the art of digital decorating.

With this easy to install device, we can project a zombie apocalypse or singing jack-o-lanterns on to our windows. And believe me, these animated digital effects cause everyone to stop and take another look. While I love some of their really creepy options, we are displaying the singing pumpkin scenes since it's not as scary for our preschoolers. Although on Halloween night, once my twins are in bed, I think we'll switch it to the psycho with a hook one or the creepy haunted twins.

The kit includes a projector, screen, tripod stand, remote and 14 pre-loaded scenes on an SD Card including Christmas graphics too, so we'll be using it then too. You could also use the same projector to play your own videos and movies. I was really surprised at how easy it was to install, especially considering the high-quality end result that it creates. Simply plug in, hang the included screen and follow the prompts on the screen to project your desired decoration. Wifi isn't needed and there are timer settings you can use too.

If you already have a projector, AtmosFX also sells the different looped visuals separately, which you could then load onto a USB drive or play through a computer, etc. For $19.99 you can pick a theme and get several interactive scenes or purchase them individually for $5.99 each. They are constantly doing updated scenes each season so I can see myself downloading new packs too. You can also order the different gear like a screen or projector separately too through their site.

3 Simple Tips to Improve Your Home's Air Quality

Did you know indoor air can be 5x more polluted than outdoor air, even in the most polluted cities?! You can improve your home’s air quality by removing harmful toxins with these three simple tricks and tips.

Add Indoor Houseplants

Improve Your Home's Air Quality with Indoor Houseplants
Branch out your home decor with actual branches of the plant variety that is. Plants remove toxins from air – up to 87% of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) every 24 hours, according to NASA research.

"VOCs are something a lot of us don’t tend to think much about, but the more energy-efficient our buildings become, the more they’re trapped," says Costa Farms horticulturist Justin Hancock

Also, a study by the University of Agriculture in Norway found that indoor plants can also help fight colds.

Fortunately, you can add oxygen and ‘fresh air’ to your home with Exotic Angel houseplant varieties, which make the best indoor and office plants, ideal for sprucing up your space because of their hardy nature and varying lighting needs. Houseplants are also a great way to change the look of your home seasonally, especially if you treat containers and pots as accessories.

I recently redecorated the windowsill in my kitchen, converting a red polka dot teapot that I already had into a planter for a succulent. I think it's darling, no?

cactus planter in a teapot
Succelents double as trendy decor and natural air purifiers
I then found matching polka dot pots and planted a Jade plant, Croton and Dracaena all delivered to my door from Costa Farms exotic indoor houseplants.

TIP: Two of the best easy-care, low-maintenance plants for anyone just starting out with plants are snake plant and ZZ plant says Hancock. He adds, "I sometimes joke that you have to try to kill this houseplant duo with total neglect or consistently over water them."

Change Your Air Filters

Typically, your air conditioner's air filters should be changed every 3 months depending on your home, climate, and situation – yet the average is over 6 months – and that’s for people who remember to change them at all! This means you are wasting energy, losing money on HVAC repairs and energy bills, and families are breathing unclean air. Also, regular filter changes save 5-10% on energy bills.

Changing your filters removes allergens, pet dander, and bacteria from the air keeping
your home clean and your family healthy. Filters clean best when they are new and do a
progressively worse job as they get dirty. This is especially important here in Florida where we run our AC units constantly.

Yet, I'll admit I have been guilty of not changing our filters nearly enough and it has caused a disagreement or two between me and my husband, seriously, lol. Fortunately, I've since discovered Filter Easy to keep us on track and never forget again.

Filter Easy Free Air Filter to Purify your home's air quality FilterEasy is a convenient subscription service that delivers your filters right to your door when they need to be changed - so you will never forget again or have to bother going to the store and picking them up again either and delaying the change time further. Simply select your exact filter sizes and preferred filter grade (they have lots of sizes available). Schedule the your frequency and they will automatically arrive at your door in time for changing. I expected the convenience to be expensive, but shipping is free and the filters cost the same as my local hardware store, so I'm never going back.

TIP: Get Your First Filter FREE

Get Free $20 to spend on FilterEasy.com, so that's like getting one air filter for FREE, plus free shipping (although, shipping is always free), and you can cancel anytime. No membership fees. No commitment. Nothing to lose, but your dirty old filters. ;)

Buy A Himalayan Salt Lamp & Charcoal Bag

When the 200-million-year-old crystallized salt is heated by the small bulb inside, it releases negative ions which are known to neutralize pollutants in the air. Probably the most well-known benefit – and why the majority of people use them – is due to their incredible power to remove dust, pollen, cigarette smoke, and other contaminants from the air.

How? They attract water molecules from the surrounding environment then absorb those molecules – as well as any foreign particles they may be carrying – into the salt crystal. As the lamp warms up from the heat produced by the light bulb inside, that same water then evaporates back into the air and the trapped particles of dust, pollen, smoke, etc remain locked in the salt.

Real Himalayan salt lamps are hand chiseled solid blocks of ancient crystal salts. They have a beautiful pink color, often pinkish orange, due to the high concentration of minerals.

Fragrance Free, chemical free and non-toxic, the natural moso bamboo charcoal bag effectively absorbs odors, allergens and harmful pollutants too. It also prevents mold, mildew and bacteria from forming by absorbing excess moisture. Best of all, you can reuse it for up to two years, to rejuvenate just place the bags outside in the sun once a month for about an hour. Covers 90 square feet. We put ours in the closet that houses our AC unit. I just added two more bags to my holiday wish list. Who knew I'd actually want coal for Christmas? lol.

After two years as an air purifier, the Moso Bag will make a wonderful addition to your garden too. Simply sprinkle the bamboo charcoal into the soil, where it helps plants absorb moisture and nutrients. This completes its life cycle as a product that comes from the earth and ultimately gives back to the earth. Love it!

Before & After: My Dream Book Nook

The Dream:

Being an avid reader, I have always dreamed of an at-home library. Nothing grand like in Beauty in the Beast (I wish!), but a sunny reading area with built-in bookshelves.

When we moved into our Florida home I couldn't help but notice that our master bedroom had a random alcove and picture window that we didn't know quite what to do with. Well, that's not true. I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it! ;) So, I quickly provided a few carpenters with the following mock-up sketch, directions and inspirational images found on Pinterest and in magazines. See below for the result.

The Inspiration:

The Project:

Ideally, I wanted there to be shelving above the window too for mass paperback books and a bench built as well for sitting, plus additional cubbyholes below for more books to go underneath the window seat.

You wouldn't believe the expensive price quotes that I got, they were astronomical. I had to be a bit more flexible in terms of materials, etc. Even then, it was still an arm and a leg, but I was able to keep the main attributions that I wanted. I also picked up a outdoor lounge cushion from World Market that fit the bench. I need to add more padding underneath it though.
Almost done!

The Result: My Reading Nook

In the afternoon light
At night

I think it really adds value and dimension to the room too. What do you think?

What's your must-have feature for your home or future home?

Easy Easter Bouquet with Peeps and M&M'S

Easy Easter Bouquet Centerpiece with Peeps and M&M'SHappy Spring everyone!

I'm in love with this easy Easter spring time bouquet centerpiece! Just seeing it on my kitchen table makes me smile and the room more festive.

Here's how to do it:

First, I picked up a bouquet of purple tulips at the grocery store, a bag of pastel Easter M&M's and two boxes of Bunny Peeps in yellow and purple to match the flowers.

I then put the flowers in a small stem vase with water and placed it in a larger hurricane glass vase. Next, I filled the hurricane glass with the bag of M&M's, which quickly worked to hide the tulips' vase, but you might need two bags of M&Ms depending on the size of your vase. Then, I placed the bunny Peeps on top of the hard shell candies and around the bowl for a fun border. Don't separate the individual Peeps, instead keep them in the sets of four that they come in for easier placement. That's it!

TIP: You could also use Jelly Beans instead of M&M's if you wanted bolder colors in lieu of pastels.

On my table!
Do you have any Easter decorating projects that you're working on? Feel free to share a link in the comments :)

A Berry Thanksgiving Centerpiece

Now that Halloween is behind us, Thanksgiving is already looming. I was challenged by the #FebrezeHoliday scentspiration kit that I received to switch out my pumpkin centerpieces a little early in prep for the next holiday and I'm glad I did.

The Febreze Home for the Holidays Collection available for a limited time at Walmart can help welcome the upcoming holidays with the scents of Frosted Pine, Apple Tart, Toasted Almond, Vanilla Latte, and Sugared Cranberry.

I was especially taken with the Sugared Cranberry scent since every Turkey Day I make homemade cranberry sauce (Tip: after I boil the cranberries with a splash of orange juice, I mix in a can of crushed pineapple to sweeten the sometimes tart dish).

This year, I thought I'd also decorate my Thanksgiving table with cranberries, which can be as easy as filling a clear vase or bowl with loose cranberries or slipping a branch of bittersweet, holly or fall favorite into a ceramic pitcher. I didn't know where to locate real fall branches down here in Florida, so I purchased artificial red berry holly and cranberry branches, which will definitely last longer anyway.

A Berry Thanksgiving Centerpiece - DIY

My favorite color is red, so I am really loving this bright home decoration on my table and I can't wait for my family to gather around it at Thanksgiving time (I'm hosting this year!).
Thanksgiving Centerpiece
While I've already been enjoying the Febreze NOTICEables Sugared Cranberry Air Freshener plugged in, I plan on getting the Febreze Fabric Refresher spray also in Sugared Cranberry to spritz directly on to the faux berries to add a subtle but festive fragrance to the display.

Disclaimer: This is a sponsored post for SheSpeaks and Febreze, but all opinions and above statements are naturally my own.

Fall Decorating DIY Project: Polka Dot and Boo Pumpkins

I LOVE Halloween, it's my favorite holiday. But to be honest, I love all holidays and decorating for them. Even when I only had a college dorm room to decorate or my Bitchen apt in the city (bed above the kitchen), I still managed getting my digs and wardrobe into the holiday spirit. Yes, I've always been a geek like that. However, I'm hardly a crafting guru, so I'm all about easy DIY decorating ideas for less. Here is my latest project though.

The Inspiration:
Polka Dot PumpkinPainted pumpkins- Its so warm here in Az, as soon as you carve a pumpkin it goes bad. So, I love seeing different ways to decorate them.BOO Pumpkins. Would be cute set up on a Halloween buffet.
I was going to purchase the above black and orange polka dot pumpkin for $39 from Grandin Road, but it's already sold out online. Instead, I was able to make my own glittery version for under $10 and I have the bragging rights of saying I did it myself.

My Take:

I purchased plastic craft pumpkins, paint, glitter glue and stick-on beads and a leaf garland at Michael's to create an orange polka dot, black pumpkin centerpiece and bedazzled white Boo pumpkins (Mantel Magic).

I'd normally collect real colored leaves from outside, but since it's not fall in the New England sense in Florida, I had to settle for a fake garland string, which I cut into two pieces. One piece I used to wrap around the above center piece and used the remaining string to wind around my mailbox pole with a magnetic sign that I applied as well.  I'll eventually move the Boo display outside by my entryway, but right now it's rainy season, so to keep them from getting dirty they will be staying inside until the 31st gets closer.
