Homemade DIY Whipped Coconut Oil Body Butter

whipped coconut oil body butter recipe

I've actually been on a coconut oil kick lately, after reading about the benefits and usefulness (52 uses for coconut oil). I've been putting it in on my babies' bums to battle diaper rashes, applying it as lip balm, using it as a deep conditioner for myself and even eating a spoonful for energy. I swear it's the reason why my boys never had cradle cap since I used to put it on their scalps too so the fungus could never take hold.

Now, I whipped up (literally) a coconut lotion body butter and you can too!

Although a little oily, it's a natural alternative to conventional lotions filled with chemicals and unnatural ingredients. After all, your body is absorbing it and at least this is all-natural. It's also perfect during the winter for dry skin or after a bath or a shower. I made some for my mom and now she makes it all the time.

Coconut oil body butter recipe:

Ingredients:

coconut oil lotion ingredients

  • 1 cup coconut oil (not melted)
  • 1 teaspoon vitamin E oil or almond oil or both (optional)
  • a few drops of your favorite essential oils for fragrance or for healing benefits, vanilla, peppermint, etc (optional) I had cocoa butter oil though and added that as well and it smelled amazing, but don't use too much otherwise it does get too oily.

1. Put all ingredients into a mixing bowl. Note: Do not melt the coconut oil first. It will only whip up properly if it is solid. I tried doing it all when melted and the result when it thickened didn't look as nice.

2. Mix on high speed with a wire whisk for 6-7 minutes or until whipped into a light, airy consistency. You can use an electric hand mixer or a KitchenAid stand mixer.

3. Spoon the whipped coconut oil body butter into a glass jar and cover tightly. Store at room temperature, or in the refrigerator if your house is so warm it melts the oil. Your whipped coconut oil should stay relatively soft and beady on your skin.
