My Holiday Loot

Yes, I realize that the holidays are not about the presents, but ... I did get some nice ones ;)

Coach Laptop Bag

I was tired of my frumpy and too small laptop bags and my mom came to the rescue. This one from Coach has some power to it, don't you think? It can also double as a fashionable diaper bag one day as it also came with a changing mat for that purpose.

Lucchese Cowboy Boots

These boots are made for walking and that's just what I did! I bought these Lucchese geninute leather boots while in El Paso, Texas for Christmas. Maybe it was being in Texas or the fact that we had just seen True Grit, but these vintage boots were calling me. I already wore them out with a black sweater dress and leggings and some random guy commented "nice boots" while I was out.

Golden Girls: 25th Anniversary Complete Collection

Although I've seen every episode more than once (most live back in the day too) and Golden Girls is pretty much on TV every hour, I really wanted the complete series. Especially since the set comes in a collector's box that resembles Sophia's wicker purse, love it!! Thank you for being a friend! I can't wait to host a GG marathon at my place over some cheesecakes.

Singers & Songwriters 11 CD Set
As seen on TV. After singing along to every son in the Time Life informercial, my husband took note and suprised me with the complete CD collection featuring hits from Carly Simon, John Denver, Jim Croce, Rod Stewart and many more. Yay! There isn't a song on here that I don't love, so I'm very excited. Now, I just need to go on a road trip and listen to them all.

B Sweet Cupcake Delivery

Today, I had a surprise office visit from B Sweet Catering's owner Barbara Batiste, who delivered some of their beautiful cupcakes to me and my coworkers.

The selection included a green tea cupcake, a red velvet and a Vegan carrot cake cupcake. Vegan cupcakes are either hit or miss, but I was surprised to find that this one ended up being my favorite of the bunch as it was really moist with a nice fresh citrus taste to it.
They also Disneyfied some of their creations, making special Mickey Oreo cupcakes and TRON ganache cupcakes, which have been spotted over at Cupcakes Take the Cake. The ganache provided a gooey, rich chocolate overdose and the Oreo cupcakes tasted just like the cookie, but in cupcake form. These two were both my runnerups after the Vegan cupcake.

Also, look at how they put my blog header on the label, love it! They are definitely good at incorporating graphics on to their cupcake liners/wrappers and on their boxes for some extra flair.

Special thanks to my fellow @DisneyLiving cupcake tasters:

Working out with Team Fonda on my Birthday!

On my birthday, I got to spend it with Jane Fonda. Seriously! She's launching a new set of Jane Fonda Workout DVDs for today's generation and I was able to attend the launch event and conduct the following video interview and story for The Huffington Post.

Being a child of the 80s, I remember jumping around in the background while my mother inserted her Jane Fonda's Workout tape into the VCR as the Academy Award winning actress provided calisthenic instructions. Jane Fonda is now 72 and that was nearly 30 years ago, but that isn't stopping her from being relevant to a new generation of exercisers (Full Story: http://huff.to/gD4M6x)

Oh, and I love that she's on Twitter @JaneFonda and was tweeting from the event. At one point when the girls were doing their demos she took out her iPhone and took pics for her own blog post.

12 Ways to Propose this Holiday Season

I love sharing the story of how and where Raphael popped the question, especially since it's unique (story here), which is why I'm always eager to hear how other couples got engaged and the funny stories that go along with it. Along with the big reveal, there always seems to be anecdotes about how it almost didn't happen, because the girlfriend didn't want to go for that walk or the confusion when their boyfriend drops to one knee and pulls out the ring, etc. Too fun. At least for the girls, but definitely a lot of pressure for the guys.

Nearly 25% of marriage proposals take place in the months of November and December due to the traditions surrounding the holidays, but countless men need help on deciding how to propose marriage in a memorable way that will leave their fiancées feeling all merry and providing a story for years to come.

Each year in December, Robbins Brothers--The Engagement Ring Store™, with freestanding locations in Southern California and Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas releases its much anticipated list, “12 Ways to Pop the Question this Holiday Season.”
  • 1. Take her to see Santa. Have Santa tell her she’s on his nice list, then drop to one knee and surprise her with the engagement ring.
  • 2. Hire a group of Christmas carolers to sing in front of her doorstep, and change the chorus of “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” to “Will You Marry ‘Michael’?”
  • 3. Hide the engagement ring in an ornament box and hang it from the tree on Christmas Eve, with a note instructing her to open it.
  • 4. Enlist the help of neighbors to spell out “Will You Marry Me?” in Christmas lights on her front lawn.
  • 5. If your town has a holiday parade, get the girl scouts or high school marching band to unroll a banner with your marriage proposal as they walk down the street.
  • 6. Love Disneyland? (yes!) The theme park’s decorations make any place inside a perfect place to propose.
  • 7. Escape from the stress of the city and get away to a romantic hotel or cabin. Propose to her under the stars.
  • 8. Get each member of your families to hand her a piece from a custom puzzle during your big dinner or dessert. The completed puzzle will be a picture of you proposing.
  • 9. If flying together is on the agenda in December, ask the crew to let you use the P/A system to propose when you’re in the air.
  • 10. Ask your local appliance store for a big empty box that would hold an unromantic item: microwave oven, vacuum, even a refrigerator. Wrap it like it’s the best appliance a girl could ever want. She’ll be thrilled when she finds the little tiny ring box after digging through the foam, newspapers and other filler.
  • 11. Find a local ranch or village that offers horse-drawn carriage or sleigh rides. A good old-fashioned way to propose.
  • 12. Too nervous to propose at Christmas in a public way? Ask her to marry you on New Year’s Eve, with just the two of you and a bottle of champagne as the clock strikes midnight and you drop to one knee.

Thus, on the twelfth day of Christmas my true love and I got engaged!
