Tina Turner in concert - Simply the best

16 years ago, I sat at home jealous that my mother's boyfriend was taking her to see Tina Turner in concert when I was the one who had Tina's CD after all and was the bigger fan. 16 years later, I finally got to see the legendary singer live in concert at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Due to the clusterfuck of long lines at will call, we missed the opening song, her grand entrance and her singing "I Don't Wanna Fight." When we finally entered the arena though her scratchy voice penetrated the halls like no other singer I've ever heard. It was thrilling, as was her concert, which had dancers and pyrotechnics. She even donned her Mad Max costume and made it actually feel like a thunder dome when she sang "We Don't Need Another Hero." The best thing about her peformance was that she didn't hold anything back, she still had it, even her famous hot legs still looked spectacular and her energy as high as ever. Most of all, it looked like she was enjoying being on the stage as if her heart was in every hit that she sang-"What's Love Got to Do With It," "Simply the Best," "Private Dancer," to ending with "Proud Mary" followed by an encore of "Nutbush City Limits."

Denzel Washington was one of the fans in the audience that night, looking as handsome as ever and according to Tina's comments after intermission he had went to visit her backstage. The jumbo-tron camera's also zoomed in on him during the last song. Pretty cool.
