Family Day On Board The New Norwegian Getaway

We spent this Sunday on board ogling the new Norwegian Getaway as part of a special family blogger day presented by Norwegian Cruise Line and The Moms.

We are cruise people so were super excited to see the line's newest ship before she sails on her inaugural voyage to her year-round homeport of Miami. While the ship was docked here in New York City at Manhattan's Pier 88, we were able to enjoy a sample of the ship's gourmet dining and world-class entertainment during an afternoon of family fun.

I've been on a dozen different cruises starting back when I was a kid with my father to several with Raphael as an adult, and this was definitely the most-modern designed ship I've seen. With hip furniture and sleek lighting, it's like a swanky floating hotel with more entertainment and dining choices than I've seen on any other cruise line. Great for those with families looking to keep busy while at sail and wanting to have fun at night too.

We were able to watch a sample of the performances from the live entertainment onboard Norwegian Getaway including a dance number with walk-around Nickelodeon characters and a number from Legally Blonde: The Musical (which I had seen out in LA a few years ago, review here). I think it's cool they partnered with Nick for the kids and have actual Broadway shows too instead of just dance performances like other lines do.

Meanwhile up on the top deck is a ropes course, zip line and an aqua park with five multi-story slides! Too bad the ships I went on as a kid didn't have that, but at least they will for my kids' future vacations. There is also a youth program called Splash Academy for kids ages 3-12. The twins will be seeing you in 1.5 years!

The day spa is a religious experience! I'd want to spend all my time there. Just look at the therapy pool and hot stone lounge beds that Logan and I tried out.

My only negative - the casino is not isolated to a room, but spread across an entire floor. It's also NOT smoke-free, which is common on cruise ships, but with the open-air layout I'd fear the smell would be inescapable when full with players and people.
