A decade later without my Dad

Although I look forward to awards season, for me the coming of The Golden Globes is also a reminder of the anniversary of my father’s death. Ten years ago, while I was at home watching the show with my fingers crossed for Lisa Kudrow, my father died in his sleep at 45-years-old. Lisa lost the award and I lost my father.

It’s hard to believe it's been a decade. I can easily break down as I have randomly all week and feel sorry for myself, but I'd rather try and focus on all my great memories of my friend and listen to his favorite songs Under the Boardwalk and Maggie May.

  1. As hard as it is, it's a great tribute to your father that you've become such an awesome person and advanced so much in the last 10 years. I have no doubt he's very proud. May you always find those memories of him to be close and fond.

  2. I'm so sorry for your loss.

I lost my dad to cancer in 2003. Nearly 7 years later and it still hurts so much. I have to leave the room at weddings during the father/daughter dances.

    Hugs, Tara.

  3. Nathan, thank you

Nanette, oh me too, that's the part that always gets me. I try not to, but that part also makes me jealous since I didn't get to dance with my dad at my wedding.

  4. After you lose a parent, time flies yet stands still at the same time. This is the ten year anniversary for the loss of my mother, too. May God bless the souls of Biagio "Benny" and Carmen "Mamis" - rest in peace.

  6. Uncle Benny is a guy that can always make you laugh even in death. Just thinking about times we shared eating the biggest slice of pizza you have ever seen or Christmas dinner with the family. Even though he wasn't my blood he will always be in my heart. And will be forever missed.

  7. Nathan said it so well - 10 years you have advanced and he would be proud.

raphael - so right - time goes fast but yet stands still!

There's not a day that goes by that I don't think of Benny. He was very special.
