Cougar Town a.k.a Culver City

Courteney Cox's new comedy Cougar Town is supposed to be set in the fictional town of Cougar Town, Florida, but in reality it's filmed in Culver City, California only a mile away from my house. In fact, throughout the show I usually recognize several Culver City landmarks in the background during their outdoor scenes. On my way to work, I sometimes can see them filming too, but unfortunately I only see lights, trailers and staff walking around and never Mrs. Arquette.

Even when they aren't shooting the sitcom though, you can still see part of the set in downtown Culver City. Next to the movie theater, they turned an empty building into "Jules Cobb Real Estate," where Courteney's character works. I recently posed in front of the signs and faux store front, do you recognize it?

  1. I've recognized some Culver City landmarks too! Also spotted some of the actors having drinks after a day of filming.

  2. I knew it was downtown Culver City the second I saw that big lion in the background a couple of episodes ago.

  4. I hadn't really noticed anything familiar, but then again, I don't know Culver City that much. Funny that they're not filming it on a lot.

  5. Are you serious? You wrote a blog post about how you recognize filming locations in Culver City? You mean it's not filmed in Florida?!? My goodness, you're observant!

That's about as insightful as noting that you run into a*&holes in New York City.

Welcome to Los Angeles, Tara. Please stay a while. You'll get used to it eventually.

  6. JS, Dang snark much? I've lived in LA for 4 years and NY before that so yes, I'm often recognizing filming locations, however, I watch Cougar Town so got a kick out of seeing them film there. also, my readers do not live in LA so I hoped it would be interesting for them. If it's not for you, then please don't come back.
