Batters up, Tara's out

Last week, my softball team The Sexy Pitches (I came up with the name) made it to the finals. During the game, I kept rotating from second base to catcher and of course up to bat. Since its slow pitch, the league doesn't have catcher's equipment, i.e. all that junk I used to have to wear in high school that made me look like a transformer. Anyway, during the 4th inning, I was once again catching behind the batter's box, eying the runner on second, first was empty so he didn't didn't have a force so he could stay where he was, steal, advance, etc. Our pitcher lobbed a nice one down the line, I heard the batter hit the ball and my eyes quickly darted to the guy on second when BAM! Lights out. Apparently the girl had thrown her bat and my face chose to stop it.

Now from here it gets hazy and jumbled together thanks to the medication and anesthesia. Raphael was called and he came to my rescue. Lots of blood, lots of fainting on my part. After doing an X-Ray, they told me I broke my nose and that since it's a facial injury that most prefer going to a specialist. So, we scheduled surgery with a recommended surgeon for the following morning at 7 a.m. Apparently, he does both reconstruction for battered women and celebrity faces. He then had to re-break my nose, so I now had fractures in two places just to repair it, plus over a dozen snarly and itchy stitches and a hard cast. Because of the breaks I then had two black eyes and a black, swollen lip. I looked like I was a rat in a Scorsese mob film. The image shown on the right, was from day three, so not as bad as the first two days.

The first three days of recovery was the worse. I didn't want to eat and Raphael had to keep changing the gauze every 20 mins due to blood and mucas leeking out. I also had to sleep upright and of course couldn't breathe through my nose. It didn't help that on day two of my recovery I couldn't stop vomiting, turned out I was not doing well with the narcotic that they gave me so I had to go back to the doctors and get a shot in the butt (yes, they saw my tattoo) to calm the nausea. I was then told to switch to just Tylenol Extra Strength--not as trippy.

Yeah, so that was my week! I even missed Raphael's 31st birthday party at Wockano in Santa Monica. We had picked out his outfit weeks before, he looked so cool in a vest, the sleeves rolled up on his white colored shirt, cool hat and slim tie. Meanwhile, I was at home with Patches catching up on Lost.

Tomorrow, they are removing the stitches and cast, but then I have to wear something else for another week I think, but I was told it can take months to get back to normal. I'm just looking forward to breathing again and to be able to look in the mirror again.

PS: now that you are taking pity on me, please also feel obligated to also vote for my site as best lifestyle blog in the Glam.com awards ;) I'm nominated!

Owie! I once had a head injury that led to stitches and one black eye, but not a broken nose. Hope you're back to your usual self soon!
I really enjoy your blog, even if I don't comment all the time... so I'll be voting for you!
